May 2023 Newsletter
ReThink has done some amazing work in the first five months of 2023!
Reclaiming Florida’s Future
With session coming to an end, we can report that the “Solar Schools” bill (SB 178/ HB 195) passed unanimously through all of its House committees and its first Senate committee! We’re also glad to report that the Energy Regulation bills (SB 1238/ HB 1217) that would preempt local governments from regulating greenhouse gas emissions without legislative approval, died without being heard in committee. Thank you to everyone who contacted their legislators to support clean energy in Florida!
Breakfast Fundraiser Success
Our breakfast was a huge success! We more than doubled our raise from last year, but we’ve got more need than ever to keep Florida moving towards a clean energy future. SEED Update
Last month, our SEED project team travelled to Denver, CO to participate in the Solar Energy Innovation Network (SEIN) Round 3 Symposium. We highlighted our recent work, spotlighted our target neighborhoods, shared statistical data gathered and our commitment to community engagement.
Whiz Update
Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out to help with Energy Whiz. Teams from Buck Lake and Cornerstone Learning Community went on to the State competition, with some assistance from Florida Solar Energy Center and the Office of Energy. Next year, we hope to expand our activities and participating schools, and hope to partner with Young Engineers Tallahassee, who came out as judges this year.
Save the Date!
We are excited to announce the official date for our annual Energy Ball. Stay on the lookout for more information!
