DonateStill time to join Reclaiming Florida’s Future Year-Round
On May 15, 2024, a few weeks away from hurricane season and less than one week after one of the most destructive storms to hit Florida, Governor DeSantis signed House Bill 1645, often referred to as the Energy Omnibus bill, into law. This new law downplays climate change, bans offshore wind, incentivizes increased fracked gas infrastructure, and significantly revises state energy goals.
In addition to these dangerous energy statutes, the Florida legislature and Governor passed a preemption to local heat-illness protections for outdoor workers. As climate change worsens due to these policies, the most vulnerable workers won’t be protected.
We fought against these bills this legislative session, but it’s clear we need to engage with legislators year-round. If you or your organization is interested in participating, either as an organizer or an attendee, please fill out the form below. We will invite respondents to a special online event on Tuesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. EDT.
RFF Year-RoundEnergy Camp volunteers needed
The first session of Energy Camp was a huge success, and we are looking forward to an even better second session from July 22-26.
Energy Camp is sponsored in part by the Sunshine State Biodiversity Group (SSBG). SSBG supports vital education and outreach initiatives and is focused on the importance of biodiversity and wild places.
We are asking for field trip drivers and classroom volunteers to help make the second session as successful as the first. Drivers are needed on the mornings of 7/24 and 7/25.
Volunteers may also be asked to help with setup, breakdown, and assisting campers with activities. Energy Camp will be held at United Church of Tallahassee (1834 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32308).

The Upper Limit Project made significant headway this month as we were invited to participate in a gathering with scholars from the IPCC, UN, state and federal governments, academic institutions, and NGOs. The focus is on moving beyond acknowledging the problem of coastal climate change projections to pushing for solutions at all levels of government, including internationally.
Stay tuned for more news as we get closer to the UN General Assembly’s day of Sea Level Rise on September 25.
