On Wed Feb 6th, a proposed committee bill (PCB 19-01)--a bill not sponsored by any legislator, but drafted on behalf of an entire committee--was released and scheduled to be heard in front of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANRS) Subcommittee on Wednesday, February 13, at 1:30 PM. The bill contains a flawed definition of fracking and is not a true fracking ban. Additionally, the committee bill will be heard at the SAME time as Senator Montford’s fracking ban bill in the Senate. The committee bill came out of the blue, even as a FLAF-supported fracking ban bill (HB 239) had already been introduced by Rep. Fitzenhagen.
To be a true fracking ban bill, Chair Chuck Clemons (Alachua, Dixie, and Gilchrist County) and his fellow ANRS Subcommittee members must amend their bill to include the full scientific definition of fracking. Otherwise, the health of Florida’s residents and our environment will never be safe from fracking.
Help us show these legislators that a flawed definition--and dirty tricks--aren’t acceptable. It’s not a fracking ban if it doesn’t completely ban fracking. You can help by attending the meeting on February 13 at 1:30 PM in Room 12 of the House Office Building at the Florida Capitol and waiving in opposition to the Proposed Committee Substitute Bill UNLESS it is amended to include the proper scientific definition.
Please arrive early, as some of us will be going to support Senator Montford’s SB 314 in its first committee as well.
