  • In collaboration with it’s partners in Floridians Against Fracking, ReThink Energy Florida monitors sites where oil exploration or drilling may become fracking. Recently, we’ve received word that Spooner Petroleum encountered a “dry well”--an unproductive well--in the Apalachicola River Basin, and has therefore shut it down. We are currently investigating whether Spooner Petroleum will continue to drill in Calhoun County. Meanwhile, the Texas-based Burnett Oil Company is still exploring for oil and gas in in Big Cypress, and we have unearthed some irregularities in drilling permits recently issued to operators in Santa Rosa County.

For more information, please contact V Miller at campaigns@rethinkenergyflorida.org.

Offshore Drilling

  • Rethink Energy Florida believes in empowering Floridians to vote for changes that support our local communities and increase the safety of our public spaces. Therefore, we are encouraging the citizens of Florida to come together to tell our lawmakers that they demand leadership in protecting our economy and our public safety by voting YES on Amendment 9 to ban oil drilling.

  • Amendment 9 will appear on the November 2018 ballot and, by adding an amendment to the Florida constitution, will permanently protect Floridians from opportunists who would put our economy at risk for the narrow interests of oil corporation executives. The amendment works by banning drilling for the extraction of oil or natural gas in Florida’s territorial waters, but this Amendment needs 60% voter approval to pass. Rethink Energy Florida asks you to stand with us, demand your right to clean air and water, show up to vote in November, and vote YES on Amendment 9 by completing the pledge below.

    • Amendment 9 is a proposed constitutional amendment to be put to voters in November that prevents oil drilling close to Florida’s beaches. The measure also prevents the use of electronic, vapor-generation devices in indoor workplaces.

    • Click here to pledge to vote YES on Amendment 9!

For more information, please contact V Miller at campaigns@rethinkenergyflorida.org.

Renewable Energy

  • In Tallahassee, the Ready for 100 Efforts advanced significantly during the month of May. Based on community support for the Ready For 100 effort, the City of Tallahassee hired nFront Consulting to meet with stakeholders and design the planning process for the City’s transition. ReThink is co-coordinating a meeting between local community organizations and nFront which is set for early July. We are also working with our partners to plan meetings with the County on it’s Sustainability Compact so that we can work to make the process as inclusive as possible. In Tampa, our team continues to examine the city of Tampa’s Budget and Comprehensive plan so that a strong Ready for 100 strategy can be created with our partners.

For more information, please contact V Miller at campaigns@rethinkenergyflorida.org.

 ReThink's Regional Chapters:

In addition, we have our statewide Facebook page and our statewide Facebook Group for sharing statewide activities!

  • If you are a member of the following communities, we strongly encourage you to follow these links to join your ReThink Energy Regional Groups!

  • If you live in a region of Florida not listed above and would like to start a regional group for your area, respond to this email and let us know!
