 December Recap:

Tallahassee Events

  • Young Environmental Leaders

    • Last month, young leaders gathered to learn how to be more engaged and active environmentalists. We talked about how to merge passion with leadership effectively and efficiently. Young Environmental Leaders left the meeting with a list of goals and projects for the month.
      • Don't worry if you missed this one, we have other ways for inspired youth leaders to get involved!
      • Stay tuned for a meeting next week! Please let us know if you would like to be involved.
  • Green Holiday Shopping Extravaganza

    • The Fifth Annual Green Shopping Holiday Extravaganza was a brilliant platform for local artists to exhibit their eco-friendly art work, clothing, and home décor! This event was all about the three R's- recycle, reuse, repurpose.
    • This event also concluded The Tally Thrift Rally- local teams competed with only $100 each, a month to work, and their imagination. Teams were judged on their story: how they came to find their items, the retail value of their items, and public opinion.
      • The winning team was Team Flower Power, second place went to Team Coin, third place went to Team Thrift-Able, and fourth place went to Team Lee and the Bee.

Brevard Chapter Events

  • Ocean Reef and Beachside Fest

    • On December 2nd, everyone gathered at Satellite Beach to celebrate the ocean lifestyle and togetherness. There was something for everyone whether it was educational programs in the clubhouse or a sea turtle themed maze for the kids
    • The Brevard Hawaiian Dancers were also there to preform a ceremonial Hawaiian Dance!
      • Upwards of 10,000 people attended!

Miami Chapter Events

  • Miami Monthly Chapter Meeting

    • On December 11, the Miami Chapter met for their monthly meeting to discuss new ways to get involved in the Miami area. Members discussed contacting legislators to urge them to ban fracking and the statewide event Reclaiming Florida's Future for All.
  • Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation

    • Once a year, prior to the state legislative session in Tallahassee, legislators come together to discuss their priorities for their represented area. This was a great chance for citizens to speak out about the issues that matter to us!

  •  Fracking
    • ReThink has collaborated with numerous organizations and leaders within our community to educate the public about fracking and its consequences. We have several events this month and in the coming that usher in a new wave of environmental consciousness.
    • In December, ReThink chapters held monthly meetings and events to encourage the preservation of our environment and guide legislation towards a BAN on FRACKING! Staff also attended legislative delegation meetings to represent citizens of Florida and inform our representatives of citizens' concerns.
    • Join us this year to participate in events that directly impact Leon County residents purchasing solar energy and to ensure that our voices are heard this legislative session!
  • Renewable Energy
    • ReThink will continue to blaze the path for renewable energy in 2018. We are starting the new year with events to help you get information on how you can go solar at home. Solar co-ops assist a group of homeowners who are interested in purchasing solar panels to leverage their bulk purchasing power while learning about the benefits of distributed solar energy. As a part of a solar co-op, citizens benefit from the educational process. Each participant signs his or her own contract with the installer, and everyone gets the high-quality competitive bid. All homeowners who reside in Leon County are eligible to participate in the co-op.
    • For more information or to get involved, please reach out to Doug Miller at campaigns@rethinkenergyflorida.org.

 ReThink's Regional Chapters!
