Call to Beat NEW Flawed House Bill and Pass Montford’s Ban in the Senate

Yesterday, a proposed House committee bill (PCB 19-01)--a bill not sponsored by any legislator, but drafted on behalf of an entire committee--was released and scheduled to be heard in front of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee next week on Wednesday, February 13, at 10:00 AM. This bill DOES NOT include a full definition of fracking, and pushing Committee Chair Chuck Clemons and his fellow committee members to amend the bill’s definition is CRUCIAL to protecting the health of all Florida residents.

  1. Please Call Chair Clemons at (850) 717-5021 IMMEDIATLEY and urge him to amend the proposed committee bill with the right definition of fracking--the one included in Representative Fitzenhagan’s HB 239.

  2. Please Call Speaker Oliva at (850) 717-5110 and urge him to vocalize his support for the full definition of fracking contained in Representative Heather Fitzenhagan’s true ban bill, HB 239.

On the SAME day, and at the SAME time, Senator Montford’s fracking ban bill--Senate Bill (SB) 314--will be heard before the Senate Environmental and Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:00 PM. Passing this bill--which has a good definition of fracking--is crucial to defending our ban in the Senate and stopping the flawed bill in the House. Please help us get a strong YES vote by doing the following:

  1. If you live in DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Highlands, Okeechobee, Charlotte, Lee, or Polk County, please call Senator Ben Albritton at 850-487-5026 and ask him to vote YES on Senator Montford’s fracking ban bill.

  2. If you live in Northern Indian River or the Southern Brevard County, please call Senator Debbie Mayfield at 850-487-5017 and ask her to vote YES on Senator Montford’s fracking ban bill.

  3. If you live in Southern Volusia County or Northern Brevard County, please call Senator Tom Wright at 850-487-5014 and ask him to vote YES on Senator Montford’s fracking ban bill.

Big News

Court clears the way for oil drilling in Everglades!

"Overturning a decision by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, an appeals court Tuesday ordered the state to issue a permit to a major Broward County landowner that wants to drill an exploratory oil well in the Everglades." Why does this matter? This decision only raises the stakes for the ban fracking bill to be turned down. To ensure the ban fracking bill gets a strong YES vote, make sure to contact your local Senator and tell them to vote YES on Senate Bill (SB) 314!

Our Youth Environmental Leaders (YEL) Program will be kicking off again in 2019. YEL aims to provide instruction, perform public service, and initiate the development of ideas and long term solutions for existing environmental problems. YEL students will learn to enlighten communities on energy issues, and be able to address present and future environmental concerns. YEL encourages youth development by promoting citizen involvement through political activism, outreach and community service.
