2017 Coastal Clean-Up at Bald State Park

It’s almost time for the 2017 International Coastal Clean-Up! Bald Point State Park will be hosting a clean-up site again this year, and we’d love to have your help. We’re planning to tackle over 15 miles of shoreline including the beach along Bald Point and Alligator Point, Alligator Harbor, Chaires Creek and other tidal creeks on the Ochlockonee bay, and the bay shoreline from the Highway 98 bridge to the Bald Point fishing pier. It’s a big goal, but with your help I know we can do it!

Clean-Up Details:

DATE: Saturday, September 16, 2017

TIME: 8:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m. (Registration will open at 8:00 a.m.) Carpool leaves right at 7:30am at the Publix Shopping Center on the corner of Crawfordville Highway and Capital Circle (5032 Capital Circle SW). Please start meeting around 7.

LOCATION: 146 Box Cut Rd
                      Alligator Point, FL 32346

WHAT TO BRING: Rain gear! Sunscreen, insect repellent, protective clothing, sun hat, water safe close-toed shoes, reusable water bottle

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED: The park will provide trash bags, gloves, extra drinking water, and a light snack for participants. The first 100 participants will also receive a Coastal Clean-Up T-shirt provided by Apalachicola Riverkeeper (sizes are limited and are not guaranteed).

GROUPS: Groups are encouraged to participate! If you plan to attend as part of a formal group or organization, please fill out the attached Group Volunteer Application and return via e-mail. Provide as much information as you can in advance, and the rest can be finalized on site. At a minimum, please include group name and contact information, and estimated number in group.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: We are looking for 12-15 kayaks and canoes to access some hard-to-reach places along Ochlockonee Bay, Alligator Harbor, and Chaires Creek/Tucker Lake. If you are interested in bringing a vessel to use, please contact me so that we can plan accordingly.

Please RSVP by phone or e-mail to let me know you are interested, and so that I can notify you of any major changes. If you’re not sure until the last minute, that’s fine too.

Whether you’re a seasoned coast cleaner, or this is your first Coastal Clean-Up, come out to Bald Point State Park on September 16 to help us protect and preserve our natural waterways!
